Maize Degermination Systems

Maize degermination separates the germ, bran, and endosperm of the maize kernel into distinct fractions for independent processing. Dry degermination uses impact and abrasion without moisture addition and is the standard process for grits and meal production. Wet degermination soaks the kernel before processing, softening the germ for higher-yield extraction: this is preferred where the germ is destined for oil extraction and maximum germ recovery is required.
