Maize degermination is the process of removing the germ and bran from the maize kernel to produce degerminated grits, meal, and flour with improved nutritional properties, extended shelf life, and lower fat content than whole-kernel milled product. Dry degermination uses impact and abrasion to crack the kernel and separate the components without moisture addition. Wet degermination soaks the kernel prior to processing to soften the germ, allowing gentler separation with higher germ recovery for oil extraction. Facet Engineering supplies and integrates degermination machines into full samp and grits production lines, together with associated conveying, classification screens, aspirators, and gravity tables for complete fraction separation.
